BI Tools | Power BI | How do I download and activate dashboard templates? Version 2023+
Activating Dashboard Templates
Self-service dashboard activation requires three main steps:
- Downloading New Template Dashboards
- Connecting New Template Dashboards to Oneviews
- Enabling Power BI Feature
- Publishing Dashboards to Power BI Service
- Make Power BI Service Load Your Data
1. Downloading New Template Dashboards
Our dashboard developers are continuously reviewing and optimizing our dashboards to offer new reporting capabilities and improved user experience. As new dashboard versions become available, ChannelMix clients have the option of downloading and activating the new version themselves or they can submit a ticket to have the dashboard updated on their behalf. Self-service dashboard activation is available for all of the channel-level and cross-channel dashboards that are part of our Level 1 capabilities. This process requires a Power BI Pro License.
- Navigate to the ChannelMix Source-Level Dashboards section
- Identify the Dashboard you’d like to download/update, and click on the related Download article.
- At the top of the article, you can find a link to download the Power BI workbook file for the dashboard.
Once you have the workbook downloaded, launch the dashboard through the download file or open Power BI Desktop and open the workbook by clicking “Open Recent Files” and navigating to where you saved the file on your desktop.
Latest Version of Power BI Desktop
Once you open your workbook, make sure you’re working in the latest version of Power BI (this should be the current month’s version, such as February 2023 or you can view Power BI Release Notes). To do check this, go to File → About.
If you do not have the latest version, you can download it from Microsoft's Power BI Home Page.
2. Connecting New Template Dashboards to Oneviews
When you launch your workbook you will get a popup window to input your redshift connection information. Depending on the workbook you download you will have more or less prompts to complete.

5. Make Power BI Service Load Your Data
Does it take a really long time for your dashboards to initially load your data on the Desktop version? Then this solution is for you!
When inputting the parameter prompts above, on both the start_date and start_date_time you will want to input a date that is in the future. Example: 1/1/2030.
This will make it so your dashboard won't load any data.
You'll next need to complete the steps for Enabling the Feature and Publishing to Service.
Next follow these steps to load your data on Power BI service:
- Navigate to Power BI Service and go to your workspace where you published your report
- Find the dataset for your report
- Click the schedule refresh button
- Or you can click the 3 dots icon and select Settings
- Or you can click the 3 dots icon and select Settings
- Once on the Dataset Settings pages find the section for Parameters and open it
- This will list out all the Parameters in the report, which you have already filled in
- Find the Parameters for start_date and start_date_time
- Adjust these to when you want to start including data (ex. 1/1/2000)
- Click Apply at the bottom
- Next go to Data Source Credentials and Edit Credentials to set your username and password for your gateway connection.
This only needs to be completed for 1 dataset then all the same connections will use the credentials
(make sure to complete this step if you didn't already do this in desktop) - Go back to your Workspace page and refresh you're dataset
- Once complete you'll have all your data available in your dashboard
*If you don't see your visuals update with data right away, click the Refresh Visuals button in the upper right corner of your dashboard
