Organization Level Datasets | Implementation and Mapping
Overview
What is an organization level dataset? An "Organization level dataset" is what is created when the data from any source (API, email upload, Google Sheet, etc.) contains multiple clients. For example, Organization A has Clients B and C and provides a file to ChannelMix that has data for Client B and Client C in the same file. In this case, ChannelMix creates a dataset under Organization A that holds all data in the file for both Clients B and C and then creates a mapping document that allows Organization A to dictate how the data will be parsed separately for Clients B and C.
Cool, cool, cool. Can you stop bloviating and just tell me what I'm supposed to do? Yes! Well...first I'll tell you what ChannelMix sets up for you, so there's a little more of the boring stuff before we get to what you're supposed to do.
What does ChannelMix do?
ChannelMix will provide a Google Sheet that looks like the image below.
- This Google Sheet will be in the "ChannelMix Source Files" folder within the Google Drive folder that is shared with you.
- Tab Name: Here you will see the name of the data source. In this case, the data source name is "Data Source" (pretty creative, right?).
- Advertiser ID and Advertiser Name
- These fields might be named something different like Client ID and Client Name, but they'll generally follow this format.
- ChannelMix automatically populates these fields by pulling the advertiser ID and/or name from the dataset that was created to hold the data.
- One of these fields might be blank, but that won't cause any issues. Let's say the file you provided only has an advertiser name, but no ID (or vice versa). In that case, Advertiser Name will be populated and Advertiser ID will be empty. As long as we have one of these fields to map to a ChannelMix client name, that is all we need.
- CMX Client Name (aka ChannelMix Client Name)
- This pick list will be populated automatically by all of your clients in the ChannelMix Control Center.
- CMX Client ID
- This field will be populated automatically when a client is selected in CMX Client Name.
- You don't need to do anything with this field, so it may be hidden from your view entirely, but at least you now know what it is if you end up seeing it.
What do I do?
We finally got to it.
- Navigate to the Google Sheet and select the ChannelMix Client Name that relates to each of the Advertiser Names/IDs in the sheet.
- If you do not select a ChannelMix Client Name for any of the Advertiser Names/IDs, that data won't show up in your dashboards/OneViews.
- This sheet is refreshed several times throughout the day. If you don't see an Advertiser Name/ID from your data or client that you just created in ChannelMix, wait about an hour or two and it should show up for you.
- That's it! Everything else will populate automatically.
