Are Google Analytics (GA) custom dimensions able to be pulled in to ChannelMix? If so, how does that work?
Data Explained
Yes! GA custom dimensions can be pulled into ChannelMix. You can either add them to current datasets or have new dataset setup that include them.
Please note, though, that it's not a good idea to configure a dataset using hit metrics and session-scoped dimensions.
It's also important to know that custom dimensions will act as filters if they do not have a value set. For example, if a sessions-scoped custom dimension is created on 9/1/2019, NO DATA will be returned if a date prior to that is requested. This is very important understand as datasets are built or modified using custom dimensions.
What do I need to provide to get this going?
In order to get started, we need to know the index numbers of the custom dimensions you want to add (preferably a screen shot similar to what is shown below). Which dataset or sets you want them added to, plus the dimensions you want to swap out. Or, if you want to create new custom datasets, please provide us with any other dimensions and metrics you want included with the custom dimensions.
If you want to test to make sure you're getting the data you expect, you can utilize Google Analytics' Query Explorer to plug in your dimension and metrics.
The index number is located next to the custom dimension name. See screen shot below.
